Sažetak
Saccharomyces boulardii je jedina vrsta kvasca za koju je dokazano da poseduje svojstva koja karakterišu probiotike. S. boulardii je nepatogeni, termofilni kvasac, koji se koristi u prevenciji i lečenju crevnih oboljenja, uglavnom dijareja. Ova vrsta se odlikuje sposobnošću prolaska kroz gastrointestinalni trakt i deluje inhibitorno na brojne patogene mikroorganizme. Veliki broj kliničkih studija potvrđuje njegovu efikasnost u lečenju akutnih i hroničnih gastrointestinalnih oboljenja. Njegova potencijalna primena u raznim mlečnim proizvodima može da ponudi alternativni probiotski proizvod za ljude koji pate od dijareje. Ovaj pregled razmatra efikasnost i bezbednost S. boulardii kao probiotika za prevenciju i lečenje gastrointestinalnih poremećaja kod ljudi.
