Interpersonal features and interpersonal styles

Abstract

Starting from the theoretical premise that personality defines interpersonal relations, the study is an attempt to define desirable interpersonal features and interpersonal styles of behavior in military environment on the basis of interpersonal types of K. Hornal (1976), Leary's theory of interpersonal circle (Leary, 1957) and theoretical models of Krec and associates (1972). A Scale of Evaluation of Interpersonal Behavior Features (SEIBF-98) was construed on the basis of operationalization of the theoretical model of Krec and associates (1972) and self-observation. It consists of three sub-scales (disposition for roles, sociometric and expressive disposition). Reliability of the instrument was 0.931 as measured by standardized alpha coefficient, while it was 0.893 by Gutman's split-half technique. The scale was applied on a sample of 342 subjects. Factorial analysis (method of main components, rotations) helped select 20 first order factors (nine dispositions for roles, five sociometric and 6 expressive dispositions) which account for interpersonal features and five second order factors that actually represent interpersonal styles interpreted as orientation to work, dominance, democratic attitude, humanity and leadership.
