The Strategic Management (SM) has been in the focus of research for several decades, with several strands of the field (known as schools) being developed. The importance of formal plans as emphasized by the planning school has been criticized by behavioral schools as being too scholastic and formal plans too far removed from the implementation process. The latter ones, in turn, still leave unanswered the question of coherently and effectively mobilizing an organization. Here, SM can profit from results of social movement research. We propose to blend its recommendations with previous results on SM to form a theoretical foundation of strategic issue management. We report on the pilot application in a large farming supply chain.
