Abstract
In the teaching of mathematics a teacher, apart from the basic knowledge of the important premises of mathematics, needs additional efforts and imagination to convey the planned curriculum on to the students as clearly as possible. In recent times we are faced with the growing disinterest of the students in the curriculum presented on the courses of the mathematics. The teacher needs to think of new ways of keeping students' attention. Having this in mind, we propose a model of mathematics teaching in which this aim is attained. In this paper the didactically-methodological procedure named the MTE-model of mathematics teaching (Motivation test-Teaching-Examination test) is suggested and recommended when the teacher has subsequent lessons (two or three). The idea of this model is to realize during the subsequent lessons two tests with carefully chosen and systematically ordered tasks. Students have motivating test or M-test at the beginning of each block lecture. Final testing or E-testing is performed at the end of the lecturing in order to test students' perception of knowledge of the lesson they have just heard. This model is presented in details through the processing of the two standard themes in economic mathematics during two block lectures in Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad in 2008. One block lecture contains three 45 minutes classes. Themes from the first block lectures were: percentage calculus, direct and indirect proportion and 'chain' calculus, and from the second block lectures: mixing calculus and profit sharing calculus. During the three year period, from 2005. to 2007, the efficiency of MTE-model were tested in six groups of a vocational school in Novi Sad. The results of the testing have been processed and the efficiency of the offered model of teaching has been controlled with the standard statistic procedure of control groups (which did not attend M-test calculus). Validity of control groups selection was checked with statistics - chi-squared test.
