Importance of early recognition and treatmant of right ventricular myocardial infarction

Abstract

There is significantly higher mortality rate in inferior infarctions associated with right ventricular infarctions, about 30 %, compared with 6 % in cases without right ventricular infarctions. The causes of the increased mortality rate are complications occurring in over 50 % of patients. The most frequent ones are conduction disturbances such as 2-nd and 3-rd degree AV block, atrial fibrillation and interventricular conduction disturbances. Also, rupture of the right ventricle free wall, interventricular septum and right ventricle papillary muscles are frequent. In this paper, a case of acute inferoposterior infarction with right ventricular infarction has been reported, with patient developing conduction complications, namely transient complete AV block, frequent ventricular extrasystoles and epistenocardiac pericarditis.
