Developmental dyscalculia

Abstract
Developmental dyscalculia is a set of specific disabilities in learning mathematics and in performing mathematics tasks. Inadequate teaching, environmental deprivation, and low level of intelligence can have impact on the etiology of developmental dyscalculia. Recent findings indicate that it has organic basis e.g. It begins as a consequence of brain dysfunction and it appears more often in some families. The precentral sulcus and inferior frontal gyrus are especially important anatomic structures for beginning developmental dyscalculia, although, dyscalculia can be a result of dysfunction of both hemispheres. Prevalence of dyscalculia in the school population is about 5-6%, similar to those of developmental dyslexia and attention - deficit - hyperactivity disorder ( ADHD). It is equally too met with children of both gender. It can be met independently, as a unique child's disability, but it is encountered even in other neurological disorders, for example attention - deficit - hyperactivity disorder (ADHD ), epilepsy, dyslexia, low visuomotor coordination of movements. At the moment, prognosis of developmental dyscalculia is not completely known.
