Nutritive value of Brussels sprouts leaves and the possibility of their exploitation in domestic animal nutrition
University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Agriculture, Serbia
Keywords: Brussels sprouts; leaf; domestic animal nutrition
Abstract
During the two-year investigations on Brussels sprouts cultivar "Lunet" it was determined that the yield of Brussels sprouts in the planting of 35,700 plants per hectare was 12.1 t/ha buds, 22.5 t/ha leaves and 12.8 t/ha stalks. The buds, leaves and stalk make up 25 %, 50 % and 25 % respectively, of the total plant mass. Chemical analyses show high leaf quality, in some parameters being even better than that of the buds. Based upon the obtained chemical analyses results, Brussels sprouts leaves can be recommended for domestic animal nutrition.
