Sažetak

(ne postoji na srpskom)
The issue of evaluation and treatment of the post-WWII built heritage has lately become a focus of professional attention. So far, the question of evaluation criteria and protection principles for this category of buildings has not been adequately debated by heritage professionals. As a result heritage protection institutions do not have a clearly defined position on the method of evaluating the architecture created over the past sixty years. Over recent years, the Cultural Heritage Protection Institute of Belgrade has been devoting much attention to identifying and studying the most important post-war buildings and districts. One of the important results of that process is an extended list of buildings placed under preliminary protection, which is the first step towards their preservation for the future. The process is underpinned by the belief that the availability of accurate and verified data is helpful in raising the community's awareness of its own heritage and in creating a more appropriate attitude towards the heritage regardless of the period in which it arose. Understanding the historical context of the architecture which is the subject of this article and the significance of each building is central to making decisions on their future. Setting clear evaluation and conservation criteria for the post-war architectural heritage is the most important step in its preservation, but also in selecting appropriate conservation techniques. It should ensure consistency and transparency of practicable conservation principles and procedures. Identification and heritage designation of post-war architectural structures and complexes is a major task in the area of cultural heritage protection in the future. In order for cultural heritage protection to remain a responsible and constructive social factor it is necessary to codify the principles and to define a conservation policy which would encompass all types of buildings and all construction periods. The conservation principles and evaluation criteria, as the main instrument for achieving this goal, should contribute to the clarity of perspective and judgment, thereby ensuring consistency in cultural heritage protection in the future.
