Reactive power simulator designed for thermal power plant 'Nikola Tesla A' for testing the joint VAR controller

Abstract

In this paper the simulator of reactive power in thermal power plant TE 'Nikola Tesla A' is presented. The presented simulator is designed for testing and validation of the joint VAR controller in multi-generator thermal power plant, separately for 220kV busbars and 400kV busbars. In the joint VAR controller the two control modes are available: the reactive power level control mode and power plant high-side bus voltage control mode. The presented simulator design is based on recorded reactive power step responses at different operating points. Simulator performances were verified through series of field experiments.
