The authors propose Borderline Phenomena Scale (BPS) as a diagnostic instrument for the detection of splitting in transactions with patients with personality disorders. An investigation conducted on 40 patients has shown the presence of borderline phenomena and splitting in all personality disorders and not exclusively in borderline personality disorder as conventionally accepted. This is in accordance with the authors' concept of borderline as a dimension and as a phenomenon related to the level of functioning of all personality disorders.
