Wegener's granulomatosis as a cause of the fever of unknown origin
Clinical Centre Kragujevac, Clinic for Infectious Diseases

Abstract

Wegener granulomatosis is a disease of unknown etiology with necrotizing granulomatous vasculitis, mostly in upper and lower respiratory system as well as kidneys. In the article it was presented a 33-old female patient treated at Infections Diseases Clinic, Clinical Hospital Center in Kragujevac. According to prolonged febril state, symptomatology of respiratory system, clinical investigations, lung pathological findings and antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies, we estimated Wegener granulomatosis. The diagnosis was confirmed by epipharynx and nose septum biopsy findings. Remission was established by pulse doses of ciclophosphamide and continuous doses of corticosteroids. Even though Wegener granulomatosis is rare clinical entity, in patients with febril state of unknown etiology, particularly if lung pathological findings east, it must be considered in differential diagnosis.
