Abstract

Multicriteria analysis investigates how to find the compromise solution to a multicriteria problem. It anticipates non-existence of strictly optimal solution due to inherent conflict of criteria. Illustrative problem is used to demonstrate how multicriteria methods SAW, TOPSIS and CP can be used to solve the problem of ranking four tractors from same category (Massey Ferguson 5455 Dyna 4, John Deere 6330, Belarus 1221 and New Holland T6040) based on their ergonomic characteristics. Results shows that New Holland T6040 as the most expensive, is also first ranked tractor, while Belarus 1221, as the cheapest one, is last ranked. However, if we dismiss first ranked tractor, because of his high price, and choose the second one, then the choice would be Massey Ferguson 5455 Dyna 4, although it has the same price as a John Deere 6330.
