Abstract

The aim of this study was a diagnosis of the current level of prevalence of overweight and obesity in male population in MIA of Serbia (Ministry of Internal Affairs) in relation to the criterion of body mass index (BMI). Effective sample consisted of 511 officers from different positions at average age - 35.7 ± 6.8 years. All measurements were carried out by multichannel bioelectric impedance method (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis - BIA) using the latest generation measurement equipment - In Body 720. The results showed that the overall prevalence of overweight and obesity in the test sample of police officers (BMI ≥ 25.00 kg • m-2) was at a level of 81.60%. The prevalence of overweight subjects (BMI = 25.00 to 29.99 kg • m-2) was 61.84%, and the prevalence of obesity (BMI ≤ 30.00 kg • m-2) was at a level of 19.77%. The results showed that there is a professional need for defining specific sensitive Cut off values of BMI for the purposes of assessing and monitoring the prevalence of obesity defined for the needs of the Police of Serbia.
