The analysis of digital technologies' influence on critical thinking of youth

Abstract

The paper discusses the process of implementing the digital technology over the past few decades and their influence on critical thinking of younger population that is growing in the digital environment. The fact that the television program, and later the Internet, take over the role of parents in the education and set the normative values of life, which becomes crucial for the further educational system and functioning in it. Critical thinking is the basis of successful identification of media content from a variety of sources, and the introduction of such an approach is the key for understanding the media content. Scientific progress and educational concept designed for today's younger population that is growing with the use of digital technologies indicates the interdisciplinary learning and media literacy is imposed as necessary to obtain information that will increase the capacity of society to criticize media content and correctly perceive it. Knowledge and competencies that media a literate individual has is definitely going to open the mind from the seduction of the media. People should have full insight into media literacy, so they can be protected, as well as to develop the critical thinking and participation in public life through the media. Media literacy is a basic contribution to the cultural development and promotion of a democratic society.
