Abstract

Thanks to the information revolution, a combination of factors that affect children's socialization is enriched by the electronic media. Educational and socio-cultural needs are realized in a specific way, which includes media and new information technologies. These needs can be found in the triangle where the family, the media, school or kindergarten, from a position of direct factors, exercise genuine influence on children and reflect their childhood. In this paper, we focus on research and analysis of growing up and the existence of children in the media, which the analysts and practitioners, is still investigating, but that is reflected in the operation of different media: books, picture books, coloring books, encyclopedias, radio, music equipment TV , mobile phone, computer, internet. In the empirical part of the paper, we have presented the results of research arising from the survey of parents of children up to 8 years of age, using a questionnaire that accompanied its agreement with the sentence (Likert) relating to the parents about the general role of the media, old and new, have in the everyday life of their children. In a sample of 75 respondents from urban areas, there was a self-assessment information and media competence of parents and explored the opinions of parents about the use of media. The survey obtained significant results, which indicate expectations of parents of preschool institutions and schools, as well as the need to get through the educational process at all institutional levels, promote appropriate media form that determines the position and role of media in education of children.
