Sažetak
Protonska terapija je napredna radioterapijska tehnika koja pokazuje superiorniju doznu distribuciju i dozimetrijsku prednost u odnosu na radioterapiju fotonima. Protonska terapija može poboljšati preživljavanje bolesnika omogućavanjem bolje lokalne kontrole bolesti uz smanjeno zračenje okolnih zdravih organa, što rezultira nižom stopom terapijskih komplikacija. Tokom prethodne decenije tehnološki napredak doveo je do novih mogućnosti za planiranje i sprovođenje protonske terapije, te je porasla njena primena u tretmanu različitih tumora. Međutim, biološki aspekti protonske terapije još uvek nisu razjašnjeni, a klinička primena je i dalje kontroverzna. Smatra se da je protonska terapija bezbedna i efikasna u tretmanu različitih pedijatrijskih tumora i da je adekvatna u slučajevima okularnog melanoma, hordoma i hondrosarkoma. Neophodna su dalja istraživanja i prospektivne kliničke studije sa dugoročnim praćenjem bolesnika kako bi se jasno utvrdile prednosti i odgovarajuće indikacije za primenu protonske terapije.
