Abstract

This paper deals with questioning whether certain personality traits, explained with personality model Big Five plus Two (neuroticism, extraversion, conscientiousness, aggressiveness, openness, positive and negative valence) may predict experience of hope (defined by Snyder) and life satisfaction (defined by Penezić) of young adults from Kosovo and Metohija. Examinees were students (61 males and 134 females) from various universities in Prishtina, temporarily settled in KosovskaMitrovica, average age AS=21.5, SD=2.08. Instruments used for the research are: Personality inventory Big Five plus Two, Hope Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale. Regression analysis proved that personality traits explain 37.5% of hope variance and persistence has been distinguished from the group of predictor variables as an aspect of conscientiousness and superiority as an aspect of positive valence. Personality traits explain 59.2% of variances of life satisfaction and predictor variables are depression and negative affect as aspects of neuroticism, positive affect as aspect of extraversion and superiority as an aspect of positive valence. People who are persistent, persevering, organized and confident will be able to follow the chosen path toward the desired goal without paying much attention to obstacles. Optimistic, cheerful, active and self-confident people are expected to show higher level of life satisfaction.
