Abstract

The subject of this work was the formation of attitudes and establishment of criteria for the selection of textile materials for a garment of a particular clothing style. Various characteristics of textile materials and a great number of factors influencing the formation of personal attitude towards a given piece of garment create uncertainty during shopping. However, one of the best ways of understanding how a buyer 'experiences' the textile materials or clothes, and defines their properties of comfortableness is to apply techniques such as consumers' opinion poll and subjective wearing tests. In this paper, a consumers' opinion poll included consumers of different age groups in order to select the fashion textile with the most appropriate harmonic structure for the production of a given garment that would satisfy their own complex criterions. The opinion poll represents a elaborate procedure of quality evaluation, mostly by visual observation, and subjective appraisal, and based on the information on the fabric, whereby the results of a systematic opinion poll showed that color, fabric composition, hand, creasing and fabric thickness represent the most frequent attributes influencing the selection.
