Dysentery, intestinal contagious disease, known from ancient times, especially is observed in unsafe area and wars time. To analyze epidemioiogical situation of dysentery in Belgrade during the period from 1988-2002, we have used the data from the report of the intestinal diseases, anual reports from Department of Epidemiology of Institute of Belgrade, and resultas of epidemioiogical explorations. Bacteriological attestation diagnosis is made in Laboratory for Microbiology in Institute of Public Health. In the observed period we registered in Belgrade 2494 cases of dysentery with average annual morbidity rate 10,1 per 100.000 populations. Annual morbidity oscillated from 27,3 cases per 100.000 population (in 1994) to 1,7 cases per population (in 2001). Average annual mortality rate was 0.05/100.000 populations and lethality was 0,5%. According to age, highest number of cases was registered in the group from 0 to 6 years old (855 cases or 34,3%). Disease is occur all through the year with explicitly increase in summer, from August to October, and it was 59,6% (1485). Out of those 305 epidemics acute intestinal contagious disease, 10,2% (31) is epidemics of dysentery, happened in the Institution of Gerontology (9), Children Institutions (8), Institute of cerebral paralises (6), and other Institutions. Main way of transmission Shigella in epidemic way is contact with participation of 77,4% (24). In that epidemics, we almost isolated Shigella sonnei in 58,1% (18) and Shigella flexner in 41,9% (13).
