The intoxication caused by thermoresistant staphylococus enteroxin belongs to frequent bacteriological food poisoning. The aim of this work is to present the characteristics of the epidemic provocated by enteroxin staphylococus in the Belgrade area, in the period from 1997-2001. To analyze staphylococus intoxications we have used the data based on the pieces of information about epidemiological explorations of registered epidemics and then on the Register of epidemics and Annual reports on the work of Epidemiological Service of Health Protection City Institute. In the closely examined period 3.316 cases of infections food poisoning were registered from which number 48,7% (1.615) had the signs alimentary intoxication. In that period a number of 144 epidemics was registered from which number 56,3% (81) were the epidemics of acute intestinal infections. Among these 39,5 (32) registered epidemics were caused by food infectious poisoning from which number in 21,9% (7) the cause was piogen staphylococus. In the epidemics of staphylococus intoxinations from the 740 exposed, 12,2% (90) fell ill. Staphylococus was isolated from the samples of food in all registered epidemics; in 4 epidemics it was found in the smears of throat, nose and hands of the kitchen personnel; in 3 epidemics it was also isolated from the smears of working surfaces and equipment. It was the length of time from preparing of food and keeping it on high daily temperatures till its consumption that had a great role in the development of staphylococus intoxication epidemic.
