Abstract

A categorization of speech acts made by John Searle is the basis for their application in a theatre discourse. A possible application of Roland Bart's maxima "to speak - means to act" in theatre analysis, the author traces first in the category of verbs which express action they define, in other words, and in performs. Further on, the author carefully examines the unspoken, i.e. the subtext, as the constituent of the theatrical, which is constantly present in the substance of a drama text as a specific literary discourse. In addition, the paper analyses presuppositions, which strengthen the dialog, as well as dialog forms, instructions, and state in words conditions.
