Dynamical analysis of competitors' performances and technical-tactical activity models of the world's best shot put competitors

Abstract

In the ex post facto study type of research, realized with factographic data about 1.004 best results accomplished by 74 shot put competitors, participants of competitions recognized by IAAF, individual styles of technical tactical activity of the performers in conditions of competition have been examined by analyzing 267 competition series. Also, the research involved the determination of the secular trend of the best results in the season, realized using 30 results achieved by 15 athletes, also, the study of individual variations of physical form during the competition season, implemented on 83 performer/ seasons of 29 athletes and determination of an individual trend implemented on 115 performer/ seasons of 16 athletes. Research variables have permitted the insight into the dynamics of the multiannual top results in the world, the dynamics of the results in the athletes' career, the dynamics of the results in the competition year and the characteristics of the technical tactical activity of the top shot put performers in conditions of competition. By using methods of factor analysis, the correlation matrices containing 401 coefficients of correlation between 36 variables of research were condensed. Two factor models were formed, consisting of 13 factors in total. All the factors became suitable for rational explanation by analyzing the variables they saturated, which pointed to the validity grade of latent spatial structures obtained. The results of the research point out the complexity of the research subject and provide a good base for further studies about the shot put, and also about other sports fields in which is possible to measure or quantify by another objective mean the competitive results. This kind of approach enables more rational planning and programming of the competitors' career and determination of annual trends of shot put performers' development. Also, all the necessary conditions were made to create a good individual strategies of performance in competitions, by optimizing the planned allocation of the presently available psycho-physical capacities of the athletes. It is necessary to emphasize that this research represents only the initial approach to this problem, which gives much more space for further investigation of the matter.
