The evaluation of education, and educational needs of team handball players

Abstract

Educational needs of a team handball player are defined as the difference between the knowledge, the skills and the habits that he has, that he has, and the knowledge, the skills and the habits that are required in a player so that he can fulfill various roles in various aspect of life. The investigation made an insight into the aspects of educational needs: the loading orientation for education, the main educational need, the difference between the quantity of attained knowledge and the desired knowledge and educational needs with regard to the area, the method, the place and the duration of educational activity. The empirical research was conducted in mid 2009 on team handball players in Serbia. The sample of 300 subjects was tested by using two research instruments - the Questionnaire and the Allport-Vernon-Lindzey value scale. The leading orientation towards education statistically varies considerably depending on the exhibited extent of the theoretical and the political value orientations. The athletes with strong economic value orientation are motivated to become involved in educational activities by better performance in their workplace, job promotion. The team handball players who fall within the aesthetic value type see the reason for starting a certain educational endeavor and getting involved into an educational activity in 'enjoying' the very process of learning - in 'learning for learning's sake'. The team handball players within the social value type is the following: they tend to estimate as modest their cultural and aesthetic skills that are theoretical and practical in nature, familiarity with social, economic, and political affairs, knowledge that has to do with homemaking, parenting, hobbies, organizing and spending free time and knowledge that has to do with their jobs. The team handball players who fall within the religious value type consider that they possess a little knowledge of a wider professional culture, of social, economic, and political affairs. Therefore, team handball players positively evaluate education and possess educational needs and desire to enhance fuher their education and raise its quality.
