200 years of the general Austrian Civil Code: Sources, creation and entering into force of the general Civil Code with the special emphasis on the Croatian legal areas

The author analyzed, in relation to the two hundred anniversary of announcement of the General Austrian Civil Code in 1811, how this second important codification of the civil law in Europe, after famous French Civil Code (Le Code Civil Français) 1804, was created, and what were the reasons to create this law. After that, the author in detail presented the conditions precedent that lead to the Austrian codification of the civil law, analyzed which laws were in force before it, and which sources were used in creation of the new law, General Civil Code. He especially analyzed sources of the law in the Hungarian Kingdom, later in the Hungarian part of the Monarchy, which contributed to the creation of the civil codification. In addition to the history of creation of the Austrian General Civil Code, the author presented the review of its application in particular parts of the Austrian Monarchy in chronological order. He reviewed contents and chapters of the law, how it entered into force in the Croatian countries, and also presented the review of the wording of the General Civil Code in Croatian and other languages.
