Abstract
Fennel, anise and caraway are the plants from Umbelliferae family with pronounced carminative property. GC analysis of essential oils were done to control the content active devices in these essential oils so we could determine whether these oils fulfilled the requirements of Pharmacopeias. Essential oils were made from seeds of these plants. These plants content about 2-7% essential oil. Fennel and anise have high content of trans-anethol, and caraway has high content of carvone and limonene. GC analysis was done on GC Hewlett Packard SERIES II, with integrator HP 3396A. The content of components in essential oil made from fennel and caraway were determined on nonpolar columns ULTRA 2, and ULTRA 1 and HP-101, but for essential oils made from anise we used polar column CARBOWAX 20M. Essential oil made from fennel contains 71% trans-anethole, 23% fenchone and 4% estragole. Essential oil from anise contents 85% trans-anethole. Essential oil made from caraway contents 58% carvone and 39% limonene. All analyzed essential oils are suitable quality for production parapharmaceutical preparation from products program of Zdravlje.
