Abstract
The paper presents a piece of theoretical research on efficiency of privatization policy in banking industry. It discusses significance of methods, scope and sequence of steps in privatization, as well the role foreign direct investments plays in success of privatization efforts. Moreover, the paper delivers an empirical analysis of the effects on realized privatization of the group of banks in Republic of Serbia. The analysis covers four banks, which after privatization continued to operate as independent entities. By comparing their performances before and after privatization we found clear trend of improving business performances both in regards to profitability and solvency. It is confirmed that chosen model of bank privatization, with a crucial role of foreign banking groups, is able to provide better performing banking industry.
