Sažetak
U maju 2013. godine, objavljeno je novo, Peto izdanje Dijagnostičkog i statističkog priručnika za mentalne poremećaje (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, skraćeno: DSM-5), Američke psihijatrijske asocijacije, od koga se očekivalo da donese novu promenu paradigme u razumevanju mentalnih poremećaja. Cilj ovog rada je da predstavi konceptualni okvir navedene klasifikacije čiji se elementi mogu pobrojati na sledeći način: mentalni poremećaji su koncipirani kao bolesti prema biomedicinskom modelu, a kao takvi jasno su odvojeni od 'zdravog' mentalnog funkcionisanja, i posledica su patološkog procesa u strukturi i funkcionisanju mozga, a manifestuju se skupovima simptoma i znakova bolesti za koje se pretpostavlja da imaju specifičnu etiologiju. U radu se daje pregled aktuelnih diskusija i kritika ove paradigme koja je trenutno dominantna u akademskoj psihijatriji.
