Absorptive and R&D capacity as components of Serbian’ innovation capacity

Abstract
Absorptive capacity is the ability to absorb new knowledge and adapt imported technologies. R&D capability is important for generation and absorption of new knowledge. Diffusion is mechanism for reaping economic benefits from investment in R&D. Demand for R&D and innovation is economic mechanism that initiates wealth generation processes in R&D, absorption and diffusion activities. Individual elements are interrelated and, in aggregation, they produce the national innovation capacity (NIC). The paper presents the concept of the NIC. Theoretical model has been tested on EU member countries and applied to Serbia for components they build absorptive capacity and R&D capability.
