In this paper, methods and ideas for designing a distribution network or in a more complex way, methods and ideas for designing a supply chain network are provided. In case of the designing supply chain network, also decisions about production facilities, like allocation, material consumption, production etc. are modeled. The contribution of this paper includes the development of a methodology for supporting the decision process on a strategic level in an uncertain environment when designing the supply chain network. This work solves issues about strategic decisions about quantity of production, allocation of production, physical structure of distribution network and the material flow in the network. The paper is dedicated to mathematical possibilities of modeling supply chain design via discrete mixed integer tasks. There are analyzed different factors that influence the supply chain network design or distribution network. Specifically, there are capacity restrictions of facilities (capacity of warehouses, distribution centers, and production facilities), costs connected with distribution technique (routing problem or direct route warehouse, customer, warehouse), warehousing costs and safety inventory cost and planning of production. The part of paper deals with the supply chain network design in an uncertain environment. It also encompasses decision situations with not accurate or wrong data.
