Colour discharge printing on cotton fabric using reactive dye as ground colour

Abstract
Three classes of dyes such as sulphur, acid, natural and pigment have been used to study the effect of colour discharge printing on cotton fabric using reactive as ground colour. Fastness properties of pigment colour are found superior than other classes of dyes. Poor rubbing and washing fastness properties of acid and natural dyes (coffee Arabica) may be due to improper fixation of natural dye in discharge printing. Natural dye (coffee Arabica) exhibits inferior colour strength and value (lightness/darkness of a shade) in the assessment of Computer Colour Matching. However, acid dye shows maximum colour strength and the shade obtained is also darker than other classes of dye and pigment used in this work.
