The alfalfa weevils from genera Sitona, Phytonomus and Apion are important pests of perennial fodder legumes. The damage is caused by adults and larvae in different manner. For the first year crop, which can be completely destroyed, the most dangerous are characteristic semi-roun injuries made by Sitona adults. In the following years more significant are injuries of bacterial nodes and roots made by larvae. The damage caused by alfalfa leaf weevil are mostly made by larvae. They chew stems, buds and leaves, so that complete hay yield can be lost during mass attack. Adults of genus make numerous tiny holes in leaves, whereas their larvae damage inside of stems, buds and root neck, so the first mowing hay yield can be significantly reduced.
