Solid biomass for heating: Cost-efficiency assessment

Abstract
Crop residues from agricultural production represent the biggest potential of renewable energy in Europe (Anonym, 2009) and in Serbia as well. According to Biomass Action Plan 2010-2012 (Anonim, 2010), this potential is around 1.7 mil. tons of oil equivalent (Mtoe). Compared with the 14 Mtoe of annual primary electricity consumption in Serbia, this potential amounts to 12%. This renewable energy source is most often utilized. Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy reported that in 2008, around 0.3 Mtoe of energy was utilized from crop residues and wooden biomass.
