Impact characteristics of mineral fertilizers to flow and surface distribution uniformity

Abstract
Presented in this paper are the test results of physical and mechanical properties of four commercially available mineral fertilizers from different manufacturers. Following characteristics were established: granulometric composition, friction angle, dumping angle, and volumetric mass. Fertilizers were tested for flow and consistency of radial distribution in a rotary spreader. Significant differences were established considering the physical/mechanical properties of the tested fertilizers, which impact of flow rate and spreading. The test results show that granulometric composition represents the most significant factor due to its dominant influence on other physical/mechanical properties, as well as the flow and distribution of granules. The results also indicate that coefficient of variation (CV) of radial distribution of granules should be the primary indicator of flow rate and spreading of mineral fertilizers. Its value should be within 15 %.
