Sažetak
Očuvanje genetičkog diverziteta predstavlja osnovu prehrambene sigurnosti čovečanstva. U svrhu njihovog očuvanja potrebno je održati i očuvati veliki broj vrsta, kompleksa gena i gena. Pored navedenog, genetički resursi imaju veliku ekonomsku vrednost. U zemljama OECD-a, vrednost resursa pšenice je varirala između 300 miliona do 11.000 miliona dolara godišnje. Genetički resursi se čuvaju in situ i ex situ. Najčešće se čuvaju kao seme u bankama gena.
