Abstract
During the past twenty years in southwestern Serbia, there has been a growth of small and medium enterprises engaged in the production of upholstered furniture. After years of rapid growth and development, 2008 economic crisis caused significant stagnation of these companies. The results of this survey and SWOT analysis shows that the manufacturers of upholstered furniture have several comparative and competitive advantages, but are also faced with a number of weaknesses and potential threats. Flexibility is identified as a key strength of these companies. SWOT analysis identified cluster development as a crucial measure for the further development of these enterprises in this region. Establishment and institutionalization of appropriate clusters is seen as one of the main pillars in raising the competiveness of the upholester furniture sector.
