The most important fungal diseases in greenhouse production

Abstract
Plants that are grown in greenhouses may be attacked by a number of plant pathogenic fungi. This way of plant production is very specific due to characteristical temperature conditions, as well as air and soil humidity, which are usually very favorable for development of plant pathogenic fungi. In this paper, fungi that cause seedling damping-off from genus Pythium, Fusarium and Rhizoctonia are described, then, leaf, stem and fruit diseases: downy mildew of potato and tomato (Phytophthora infestans), lettuce (Bremia lactucae), cucurbits (Pseudoperonospora cubensis), early blight of potato and tomato (Alternaria solani, A. tenuis), Septoria leaf spot (Septoria lycopersici), tomato leaf mold (Fulvia fulva), gray mold of tomato, pepper, cucumber and lettuce (Botryiotinia fuckeliana, anamorph Botrytis cinerea), cucumber powdery mildew (Erysiphae cichoracearum, E. polygoni, Sphacerotheca fuliginea) and pepper and tomato downy mildew (Erysiphae cichoracearum f.sp. cichorii, Leveillula taurica), then, root and stem diseases and wilting: tomato, pepper, cucumber and lettuce white mold (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, S. minor), green (Verticillium) wilt (Verticillium albo-atrum, V. dahliae), tomato, pepper and cucumber fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum, F. solani), Rhizoctonia root rot on tomato, pepper, cucumber and lettuce (Thanatephorus cucumeris, anamorph Rhizoctonia solani), antracnose of lettuce (Microdochium panattonianum, syn. Marssoniana panattoniana), lettuce downy mildew (Erysiphae cichoracearum f.sp. cichorii) and cucumber black rot (Dydimella brioniae). For every disease, data on distribution, damage, hosts and parasite specialization, as well as disease symptoms and pathogen characteristics - epidemiology and ecology are given. Finally, control measures are recommended.
