Epidemija salmoneloze među gostima rođendanskog slavlja u Beogradu
An outbreak of salmonellosis among the guests of birthday party in Belgrade
Abstract
This paper describes the characteristics of the epidemic of salmonellosis among the guests of birthday party in Belgrade, which took place in the period 2428.01.2015. In this paper, we used the descriptive and analytical methods. Data sources for the outbreak of salmonellosis were information from the City Institute of Public Health of Belgrade and the microbiology laboratory of the City Institute of Public Health of Belgrade. Data from outbreaks of salmonellosis were collected from targeted epidemiological questionnaire. The epidemic has sickened 13 people, 'the rate of occurrence' in this epidemic amounted to 72.2%. The incubation period in patients ranged from 686 hours. 'The rate of occurrence' for men was 70.0% and for women 75.0%. The largest number of cases was registered in the age group of 2029 years (38.5% of patients). A significant relative risk was obtained for the two types of food consumed: Russian salad (RR 1.4) and salt cake (RR 1.3). The source of infection are likely to be contaminated eggs, one of which is inadequate, epidemiological unsafe manner made mayonnaise that was used in the preparation of the Russian salads and salt cake. For the prevention of family outbreaks of salmonellosis is very important enlightenment of the population on the risks of using thermally un processed foods (eggs), as well as the importance of sanitary epidemiological habits.
