Capnography: Successful resuscitation indicator
Kapnografija - indikator uspešnosti resuscitucije
Služba za hitnu medicinsku pomoć, Dom Zdravlja, Subotica
Abstract
Capnography is non-invasive method which provides an objective prsentation of the ventillation, numerical estimation, end tidal of carbon dioxide and wave-form breathing. Pulse oximetry was a forerunner of capnography. Pulse oximetry is oxygenitation measurement whereas capnography is ventillation measurement. Currently it is used both in intubated and non-intubated patients. In intubated patients there is adequately verified endotracheal tubus, continually following tubus position and examining heart compression adequacy in CPR, which is the initial indicator of resuming of spontaneous circulation together with monitoring of low-level perfusion status. In non-intubated patients it serves as the measurement of hyper hypoventillation for detecting apnee and inadequate breathing as well as for estimation of asthma and chronic obstructive diseases.
