Abstract
The main conclusion arising out of this study consists of the fact the Albanians, differently from other Balkan's people, could not achieve to win their independence by means of military struggle. They achieved it by the protective policy of great powers toward them - Great Britain Austro-Hungary, Italy. The reasons of such state lie in the economic-cultural underdevelopment, patriarchal and feudal relationships which were ruling in the Albanian society. Great powers had also had their interests in Albania and Kosovo and Metohija and were strictly led by the policy of interests. These interests were highly interwoven and controversial. Russia pleaded the independence of Albania, which would be, equally to Montenegro, under its influence; England pleaded the independence of Albania in order to activate itself in the resistance against the influence of Austro-Hungary Austro-Hungary was persistent in its endeavors to stop the extension of South Slovenian people by means of the autonomy of Albania and achieve its advance toward Thessalonica. The formation of Prizrenska Liga marked the turning point in the development of the Albanian movement for national liberation, out of which separatistic-irredentistic tendencies ensued later on and are present up to now. In the end, it is worth saying that Kosovo Albanians did not require the independence of Kosovo but only the Great Albania at that time.
