The aim of this paper is to contribute to 'he proper understanding of the concept of 'organizational design' both in domestic organizational theory and in the managerial and consulting practices. The starting point of the paper is that organizational design is an important managerial instrument and one of the most relevant factors for a company's success. The paper is theoretical in nature and outlines different approaches and attitudes to the concept of 'organizational design' generally accepted in the relevant literature. Along with the theoretical dimension this paper has a practical dimension as well, since it points to the new perspectives in the understanding and application of organizational design as a strategic tool of managerial know-how in the process of achieving higher performances.
