Međunarodni novinarski kodeksi i dečija prava
International media codes of ethics and child rights
Abstract
Journalism is traditionally considered advocate and defender of human rights, whereas the subject of media reporting has always included topics which, directly or indirectly, fell in this field. Freedom of the press has been conditioned by freedom of expression which itself is one of the basic human rights. In this paper we have shown how the Convention on the Rights of the Child established new standards, opened the question of a new approach to informing about human rights and pointed out to the need for revising media codes of ethics in which child rights were omitted because they were considered part of the human rights of adults. The review of media codes of ethics conducted for the purpose of this paper has confirmed the conclusion of journalists themselves that codes of ethics are needed but not sufficient. There is a necessity for having child rights issues understood as a continuous process, i.e. permanent discussion and continuous education on ethical journalism.
