Abstract
Topčiderski park is one of the oldest and one of the largest parks in Belgrade. It was built in 1842 at the initiative of Prince Miloš Obrenović, as a surrounding area of Castle of the principality of Serbia. It represents a historic garden, i.e. an architectural and horticultural composition of interest to the public from the historical and artistic point of view. Tourism evaluation of historic parks has a great significance in planning the sustainable development of cultural tourism. Hilary du Cros (2000) introduced a new tourist valorization model. This complex and comprehensive model includes numerous indicators for tourist and cultural assets management sector and provides an estimation regarding the destination capacity to accept visitors. The results are shown within a nine cell matrix of market appeal/robustness. Topčiderski park, with high market appeal and moderate robustness is ideally suited for tourism activities. According to the matrix of market appeal/robustness, it belongs to the category M (2,3). Therefore, it is considered a highly important part in the tourist offer of Belgrade, which would require moderate conservation measures to protect the cultural values of heavy visitation.
