Phantasm and fantasy in child's development
University of Belgrade, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Mental Health
Abstract
Phantasm is defined as a first unconscious mental image of the impulse craving and the relation with the object. Its functions are the following: defense against frustration (aiming at the adaptation to reality), to be a mediator between the subject and the object, both the correction and distortion of reality, classification and evaluation of human experiences, formation of symbols and thoughts. Fantasy links to phantasm. Phantasming, fantasying and logical thinking are parallel and interacting processes. In this paper analyzed is the role of phantasming and fantasying in human creative actions. The dispute among geneticians, creativists and empirists about the definite nature and origin of phantasms is not settled down by the authors of this paper.
