Abstract
Petar II Petrović Njegoš (1813 - 1851) was a successful ruler, bishop, and writer at the same time. He maintained the independence of Montenegro surrounded by the enemies: Turks (Herzegovinian Ali-pasha Rizvanbegović, and Osman-pasha Skadarski), Venusians, and Austrians. He was a hero in the battle, excellent shooter and rider, and excellent diplomat. He was spreading the literacy, renewing the Printing press in Cetinje, reconciling warring tribes, introducing medal of Obilić for bravery, reinforcing frontiers and statehood of Montenegro... He was the collector of folk proverbs, which were created and printed by himself in the anthology Ogledalo srpsko (Serbian Mirror) (1846). The most important oeuvres of his were the following: poetic collection Pustinjak cetinjski (Hermit of Cetinjski) (1834), religious-philosophic poem Luča mikrokozma (Lucha Microcosm) (1845), dramatic poems Gorski vijenac (Mountain Writhe) (1847), Lažni car Šćepan Mali (A Fake Tsar Šćepan Little) (1851), Svobodijada, Noć skuplja vijeka (The Expensive Night Life). Njegoš is the creator of the immortal oeuvres celebrated freedom, humanity and heroism, preserved the Serbian being and Serbian language in Montenegro until now.
